Незаконное и недружественное поглощение компаний (см.), включая их имущество, земли, права собственности. Исходно, само по себе рейдерство как способ поглощения (обычно малоэффективных) компаний с целью превращения их в более эффективные, обещающие высокую прибыль новым владельцам, не наносит вреда экономике страны, скорее — пользу. В таком виде (его называют «белым») оно широко распространено на Западе, в частности, в США. В России же активно применяется «черное» рейдерство - один из видов экономических, а иногда и чисто уголовных преступлений. Его диапазон – начиная с подделки документов ЕГРЮЛ, государственного реестра юридических лиц или фальсификации решений собраний акционеров, и кончая насилием над несогласными с захватом менеджерами компаний –«мишеней», вплоть до убийств. При этом широко используется несовершенство законодательства, захваты часто осуществляются с помощью коррумпированных элементов системы государственного управления и силовых структур. Такова сегодня практика рейдерства в России. Пик ее, после принятия в 2010 году дополнений в Уголовный кодекс РФ, касающихся этого вопроса, по-видимому, сейчас пройден, но до решения вопроса еще далеко.
